These studies took an hour and some minutes. The first is from the 15th and the second is from the 27th. I drew features in between like how to draw ears and now I’m trying to get noses to look correct. Plus the gaze angle always looks off.

While he was going through some drawings I went ahead and did a bit of value study from the designs he showed.
Should do more figure studies.
One of my recently discovered favorite artists, Paul Calle, states the importance of drawing from the human figure as much as possible (if I could find more figure sources). “Only through repeated practice will you be able to understand the basic structure of the human body.” I practiced some surface anatomy for artists so figure drawing can assist me in remembering the things I’ve learned. I keep forgetting the proportions. Ditto for human head.
I drew another portrait but it won’t be finished until tomorrow. I’m getting faster though. Not accurate but I’m relearning some value fundementals.

Also studying values for the head. No more color heads I guess? Just practicing different grade pencils.
Edit: also guess what I bought? Some carpenter pencils and metal pencil caps for my sharpened pencils. I finally got my hands on pencils darker than 5B.

I went to eBay again and found a good deal on old presidential figurines. I’m going to attempt to handpaint them after my paints come in.
