Harry Truman

I think. I didn’t try grid measuring this time. Just seeing what I know for facial proportions.

His head seems a bit big don’tchya think?

Should do more figure studies.

One of my recently discovered favorite artists, Paul Calle, states the importance of drawing from the human figure as much as possible (if I could find more figure sources). “Only through repeated practice will you be able to understand the basic structure of the human body.” I practiced some surface anatomy for artists so figure drawing can assist me in remembering the things I’ve learned. I keep forgetting the proportions. Ditto for human head.

I did a quick copy of a figure in Paul Calle’s book, “The Pencil.”

I drew another portrait but it won’t be finished until tomorrow. I’m getting faster though. Not accurate but I’m relearning some value fundementals.

More fig studies, quick draw

Also studying values for the head. No more color heads I guess? Just practicing different grade pencils.

Edit: also guess what I bought? Some carpenter pencils and metal pencil caps for my sharpened pencils. I finally got my hands on pencils darker than 5B.

Rectangular carpenter pencils and 6B and 8B black lumographs, not the graphite ones.

poses

I’m hoping that my poses look more fuller and less flat. Anatomy helps but I need it to look less stiff. I am taking a class with Karl Gnass (classes are on sale due to covid! Hoorah) and will be watching some of his figure vids on NMA.
